TU President: professional development programs contribute to building a new institutional culture

TU President Dr. Husam bin Abdulwahhab Zaman stressed that TU professional development programs for academic women leaders contribute to building a new institutional culture, noting that TU was keen to hold the first program to qualify women leaders in higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia.

At the close of the Effective Academic Leader Program, TU President said, "When we talk about professional development programs for academic leaders, we are talking about programs that have a wide impact and are not specific to a particular colleague, department, college, or a specific group of students. Rather, we are talking about the whole institution when a large number of its leaders acquire knowledge and skills related to academic leadership. We are talking about a new institutional culture in this institution." Dr. Zaman described the university leaders' project, one of whose executive programs is the Effective Academic Leader, as a model for real development work involving government, professional, and charitable organizations, and offering distinguished programs benefiting all faculty members.

TU President said that the project is an extension of a previous initiative by the Ministry of Higher Education, whereby the Center for Academic Leadership was established, which offered the first courses and programs in this area, but later on King Abdul Aziz University, represented by "The House of Expertise" under the leadership of Dr. Saad Al-Masoudi, took up this initiative to expand its circle and involve more academic colleagues who can benefit from these projects.

He added, “This project is an initiative by a central government body in the Ministry of Higher Education, utilized by a distinguished group of faculty members in a house of expertise, and sponsored by a respectable charity, the Salem bin Mahfouz Foundation.”

Dr. Zaman expressed his thanks and appreciation to the founders of the Effective Academic Leader program in the House of Expertise at King Abdul Aziz University and the Salem Bin Mahfouz Foundation for sponsoring this program. He expressed his pride in the female academics participating in the program, hoping they would be the pioneers of change and development at Taif University and in higher education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Saad Al-Masoudi, Director of the University Leaders Project, stressed that an institution’s keenness to develop its members, especially its leaders, is a fundamental indicator of the vitality and development of this institution, what with leaders being the cornerstone of any organization. It is they who make the difference between the reality of the organization and the ambitious future it envisages. Dr. Al-Masoudi said, "When we participated with Taif University in the training of its leaders during the past year, we noticed the great interest of the leadership in this young university from the top of the pyramid represented by the presidents and his vice-presidents in these leaders.”

In a speech on behalf of the female participants, Dr. Hind Al-Khammash, Vice Dean of University Development at TU, stressed that the Effective Academic Leader Program was an exceptional training program characterized by the diversity of training methods and the modernity of presentations. The program provided an integrated electronic platform full of applications and enrichment materials, thus helping to achieve the objectives and outputs of the program. Dr. Al-Khammash pointed out that the program brings together the different leadership and academic administration levels, and contributed to leaving a distinctive and influential imprint to drive change and keep abreast of Saudi Vision 2030.
